week 52: portage and main (52-week photo & art project)

Week 52 is here, today is the last day and that brings me to the end of the 52-week photo-a-week project! This last photo comes from Winnipeg’s famous Portage Avenue & Main Street corner. I took this picture while driving home from a photo shoot. (stopped at a red light, and shot through my pretty-clean windshield)

week 50 & 51: (52-week photo & art project)

Weeks 50 and 51 quietly crept up on me and now I’m staring at my VERY LAST week of the project, coming up next week! I can’t believe this is the end! Part of me thinks I need to end it with a bang, but then again, I don’t want to set the expectations too high. I’ll see what life brings in this coming last week and hopefully I’ll get some good captures to cap off the project.

This week I post #50 and #51. One celebrating Valentine’s Day and another celebrating the cutest kid in the world! (who also happens to be the most photographed kid in the world). Enjoy!

week 49: photos on etsy! (52-week photo & art project)

Today I had some one-on-one time with my fine art cards… yup, a romantically-lit photo shoot with folded pieces of matte and linen card stock! It’s for my new Etsy store… I’m now selling fine art prints and cards online. You should check it out and find out how you can add a splash of colour to your everyday life!

week 47 & 48: (52-week photo & art project)

Welcome to almost the end of the year-long photo project! Wow, it feels like this project is fast forwarding the closer I get to the end. I thought I was caught up up until now, but today I realize that I didn’t actually have a photo posted from last week. But all’s well in the project! Because last week I did a non-work related shoot for a work related product (if that makes sense?). I took photos of one of my wedding couples’ album that had just arrived at my doorstep. And the cover is the richest, softest red suede cover you will ever see on a wedding album: feast your eyes on THIS luscious album cover!

And for this week, I actually managed to head out the door to do some fun shooting out in the snowy prairie fields of Manitoba. Ahem. Until my friend and I got to our rural destination… and found that Winnipeg’s 2012 winter is nothing like Winnipeg’s typical winters. We hardly have any snow! And on top of that, it was hardly below 0 Celcius today! Huh? Where is our bitterly cold snowy winters? Who knows. Either way, we were out in what snow is left on the ground, taking photos of train cars, miscellaneous road bushes and lonely trees. Here’s one photo from the series, more will be posted on facebook at a later date.

week 44, 45 & 46: (52-week photo & art project)

Happy new year everyone! 2012 came up so fast, and since the start of the new year, I’ve been swamped with wedding album designs as well as a few shoots. Fun stuff, but it definitely kept me tied up and that’s, yet again, an excuse for falling behind in my 52 weeks project.

Come to think of it, I’m nearing the end of this project! Only 6 more weeks! Crazy. But don’t you worry… I already have another art project in mind. It’s still being thought through, so I can’t share any details just yet… but I’m sure you’ll love it just as much (if not more) as this one. (And I hope to be more realistic with its demands… I guess 52 weeks of photos and art was way more than I could handle with a new baby and full time photography!)

Oh, and one more update: remember f/action? The Winnipeg photographic art collective I’m a part of? Well, we’ve secretly been working behind the scenes on a brand new website in the last few months, and we are SUPER close to being done and ready for launch. Soon soon!

This was a tag put on one of Élise’s birthday presents by friends of ours. A beautifully created illustration with a Petit Prince quote in French. Perfect!

This is a wonderful little hand-made creation by a friend of mine… a cute little DVD pouch for digital photo negatives on disc!

week 43: cemetery trees (52-week photo & art project)

Welcome to week 43! …which already ended on December 25th, but I have a few goodies to post today. Yes, I know, a few days late…

On Christmas day my family and I went for a leisurely walk and I brought along my 85mm f/1.4 lens. I decided to try out some in-camera double exposures, which was a lot of fun. I have lots of photos from this walk, but only one is posted here. (I may post the rest of the photos on my other blog, later when I find time…)

As for the artwork – I know this portion of the 52-week challenge has been downright neglected for weeks now, so I’m happy to say that not only was I inspired to draw last week, but I also had time and some new tools! My husband bought me some new Faber-Castell Pitt artist brush pens, so of course I had to put them to use. They are fantastic to work with and I look forward to many more drawings in the new year!

week 42: Merry Christmas (52-week photo & art project)

It’s a little festive over at my house this time of year. I’ve got birthday decorations and a decorated Christmas tree. Combine that with a macro lens and a few broken photography rules, and you have the perfect recipe for some abstract photography.
